Concussion Protocol

Did you know that 85% of concussions go undiagnosed? This is a serious problem that people need to be aware of so that they can take the proper steps to ensure that they do not incur further brain damage. We take concussions seriously and make sure to take the proper care of you or your child’s eyesight after a concussion.

Prior to a season, it is important to perform baseline concussion testing for eye movements and eye-hand coordination. Studies have shown that the eye movements and eye-hand coordination can be affected by concussions. It is extremely important that an athlete return to the normal baseline measurements and be cleared by a neurologist before returning to play and risking a second more devastating concussion.

Concussions are extremely common in various sports. After a concussion occurs many different tests can be performed to determine how close the athlete is to the original baseline measurements. Some of these tests include visual attention span, visual working memory, visual processing speed, visual reaction time, visual recognition memory, and many more.

The good news is that a doctor can help address most of the visual conditions that result from a concussion. Our doctors specialize in neuro-optometry, binocular vision, and vision therapy. You can be sure that your vision is in good hands.
